The Last 10 surahs are the most often recited and known/memorized surahs by vast majority of Muslims of all ages all around the world. This means we NEED to know what these surahs mean and how to recite them properly.
As a student of the Arabic language for over 10 years, 8 of which were spent in the blessed city of al-Madinah, I can tell you first hand that there is no feeling more satisfying than standing in obedience in front of your Lord and UNDERSTANDING what you are reciting. The main idea of this project was the present a brief explanation of the last 10 surahs of the Quran during the first 10 days from the blessed month of Dhul-Hijjah whilst breaking down the words from each surah. This was done in an attempt to connect people to the Quran and allow them to have a more meaningful experience when reading these surahs, which most of us have memorised and read on a daily basis.
My research and preparation for this project caused me to refer back to the books of Tafsir including:
- Tafsir al-Quran al-‘Adheem by al-Imam Ibn Kathir
- Tayseer al-Kareem al-Rahman fee Tafsir Kalaam al-Mannan by al-Shaykh 'Abd al-Rahman al-Sa'di
- Al-Tafsir al-Muyassar by a group of scholars under the direction of Sheikh Saalih Aal al-Sheikh, the Minister of Islamic Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
- Al-Mukhtasaru fee al-Tafsir under the direction of Markaz Tafsir lid-diraasaat al-Quraaniyyah
The format for these videos will be as follows:
Phase #1
We will discuss a very brief overview of the Surah.
Phase #2
We will read each verse in Arabic alongside the English translation and touch upon the meanings of each word so you can feel fully engaged and in tune with exactly what your Lord is saying to you. The whole idea is for you to feel connected to the Book of Allah. If you feel you need to go back to replay me reading each verse please feel free to do so such that you can get your pronunciation as close to mine as possible.
